Karmic Healing is a memoir that alternates between a recitation of events from the author's life and her thoughts about the events from the standpoint of her metaphysical training Dr Clark's husband John suffered from juvenile onset diabetes and shortly after their marriage his health began to deteriorate and within a handful of years he died from that conditionDr Clark's thoughts about this were fascinating because as a member of a metaphysical healing school she knew that John had effective ways to deal with his illness but she couldn't force them upon him All she could do was adjust her own mindset as he slipped further and further into physical decay and what she labels the trap of western medicine Western medicine tends to treat the body alone and leave the soul to its own devices As John went on and drugs to try to alleviate his pain and illnesses he began to experience terrible side effects and then be forced to take drugs to treat the side effects Dr Clark felt helpless to interrupt this cycle and was for the most part ignored by the doctors and nurses who were treating her husbandDr Clark raises some interesting questions about quality of life vs treatment Should life be prolonged just because it can be? What purpose does pain and illness serve in our lives? Should all options be pursued even when the soul has checked out of the equation or the patient remains in a coma for the rest of his life? What does healing mean anyway? Do doctors fail if a patient dies?I really enjoyed this book and the questions that it raised even though I may not agree with everything that Dr Clark believes I only gave it three stars because the text becomes a bit repetitive in the middle She included letters or journal entries that repeated each other nearly verbatim Other than that this is an excellent read for anybody interested in holistic health practices metaphysical healing or who has questions about life death and quality of life issues
